This afternoon, Walker contacted me with some long awaited news and an attached proof of the book’s cover.  The History Press, our publisher, has confirmed our official release date – September 18 2009. The book will be distributed in retail stores & vineyards throughout the state.  Our publicist is already busy scheduling publicity events, tours, lectures, signings… etc.

Sept ’09: Northern Virginia Magazine

On Saturday, I was quite excited to find the September issue of Northern Virginia Magazine in my mailbox. Although I was anxious to see my images… I was absolutely floored when I saw the design work of the features that I photographed. As I’ve grown to expect, the layouts and graphics are contemporary and visually stunning. The stylization of the design work compliments the color palette of my imagery & demands the attention of the reader. This is a must see issue… pick one up when you get a chance!

After 3 years of collaboration… I remain excited that the magazine’s art department is still keeping it fresh and new. My hat’s off ladies… Nice Job!

Book Project: Work In Progress

A good part of July has been spent editing though the abundance of images created for this project.  The month is quickly winding to it’s end, and I can see myself finally closing in on the final stages of post production.  Our deadline, August 3rd, is right around the corner…  Almost there!

Entrepreneur: Matt Bloom

This morning, I had the great fortune of working with business entrepreneur, Matt Bloom. Matt met up with my assistant & I at a pre-scouted alley location on U St. NW in Washington DC. We chose to avoid the sweltering afternoon heat by settling on a 6:00 am call time. For the first few hours of early sunlight, we enjoyed exclusive access to the alley… as well as… the mild morning temperatures. When all was said and done… we stopped by a neighborhood favorite, Buss Boy & Poets, for a relaxed breakfast.

Cyclist: Casson Hersh

I was psyched to be working this morning with my good friend and avid cyclist, Casson Hersh.  Cass is an all around inspiring guy with an unrivaled spirit for epic adventure.  In the summer of ’08, he and fellow cyclist, Ryan Gerasimowicz, took a month off to bike from Seattle to San Francisco.  They road along the Pacific Coast… biked everyday & camped every night!

Although this image immediately caught my eye… I haven’t had a chance to look through our whole take yet.

Visual Artist: Zach Nyhus

One of my favorite portrait sessions was with my old friend, Zach Nyhus.  With a truly inquisitive nature and a passion for the artistic process… Zach channels an unmatched and inspiring love of life into his friendships and his work. I first met Zach in the winter of 2003… just after his move to DC.

Unfortunately. Zach’s time here was short lived… and in 2006, he moved back to Minneapolis.  I miss his eccentric intellect, aesthetic inspiration, and (most of all) his friendship.
